Monthly Wrap Ups

February Wrap Up – a direct miss at an attempted fantasy month

feb wrap up

so see what happened was that, my best friend (hi little bee!! 🥺) and i decided that we would make february the month of high-fantasies. and while the intention was completely there, it turned out to be the month of ignoring fantasies bc as you will see, i,,,,,only read 2 fantasy books for the entire month.

granted i did manage to complete a 1200+ paged brandon sanderson, but AFTER that, i literally went on the biggest contemporary binge ever and i think that’s the best example of what comes of me trying to set a strict tbr.

RIP to my beautiful 10+ fantasy book TBR, we had hope but you didn’t come through.

I read a total of 12 books. 4 physical books 📕, 4 e-books 📱, & 4 audiobooks 🎧
YARC reads will be represented with this emoji: 🍚 i’m currently at 4/50!

Links will take you to my reviews for each book.

feb wrap up1

📕 Well Met: ✦✦✦✦✧

this was such a sweet romcom that had deep moments of personal, family, and friendship growth. it has such a cute, soft, small town setting and had a beautiful enemies-to-lovers romance that had me soooo invested

🎧 American Royals:✦✦✦✧✧

the ending is what brought this book up in my eyes. excellent reveal and conclusion to the book. overall it was an interesting glimpse into what the world would look like if america had royal family. lots of drama, politics, and even more drama. entertaining but also kind of overdone?? idk

📕 The Blade Itself: ✦✦✧✧✧

uhhhhhh, this book took 500 pages to build some strong characters but like,,,,,had no plot so what am i supposed to do with this information???

📱 Wilder Girls: ✦✦✦✧✧ (3.5 stars)

this was sosoososososo interesting and absolutely horrifying and i loved the creepy atmosphere and the character profiles. my only issue was that the ENDING left me so underwhelmed and desperate for more

🎧 Oathbringer: ✦✦✦✦✦

feb wrap up2

📱 Yes No Maybe So: ✦✧✧✧✧

the migraine that HITS me when i think of this book, wow. muslim main characters really only have one narrative and it’s NOT the one i want. i wrote a full rant review if anyone cares to hear my full thoughts.

📱 Tweet Cute: ✦✦✦✦✧ (4.5 stars)

this checks ALL THE BOXES: angsty, banter filled, family business rivalry, main character who is an amazing baker, soft boy

i’m just so in love

🎧 The Other Mrs.: ✦✦✦✧✧

this was a really interesting thriller. i think it’s a great place to start for someone new to the genre bc it includes a lot of well-known thriller reveals. it’s definitely entertaining but also kind of predictable (to meeeee)

📕 The Flatshare: ✦✦✦✦✧ (4.5 stars)

oh my god!!! this book was everything i needed. it’s about flatmates who share their flat at different times, so technically they never meet but it’s filled with so many sweet, funny, wholesome moments and goes into deeper topics like emotional abuse and gaslighting and was just all around amazing.

🎧 Loveboat, Taipei: ✦✦✧✧✧

everything about this book fell flat to me. i felt like i read this same story of an asian girl going back home and trying to break out of her parents strict rules so many times and this wasn’t one that was memorable :/

feb wrap up3

📱 Quiet Girl in a Noisy World: ✦✦✦✧✧ (3.5 stars) 🍚

introvert nation rise!!!! this had adorable illustrations and was so relatable.

📕 The How and the Why: ✦✦✧✧✧

i really don’t want to talk negatively about this book bc it’s about such a personal story of adoption and i genuinely found nothing wrong with it. i just couldn’t connect with the characters and felt too much time was spent on the side plots rather than the main story.

and there we have my february wrap up! i definitely anticipated reading more books this month but eh, i had a really good time with most of them, so i cannot complain.

how was your february? did you manage to read any of these books I listed? what was your favourite book of the month? hope you’re having an amazing march!signature final

  2. I think Sanderson is the only author who could write a 1200+ page book and I’d still be absolutely willing to read it. Wow. Even though you didn’t read much fantasies, that’s still a lot of awesome reading!! Glad you kind of enjoyed most of them!!

    Happy reading ❤✨

  3. Gosh, I can’t blame you for avoiding fantasy after reading one over 1200 pages! I’m glad you at least really enjoyed that one!
I love your mini reviews of all the books you read in February – I really get a sense of how you felt about all of them from your writing voice 🙂
The only one of the books you read that I have also read is Wilder Girls and though I loved the creepy atmosphere, I enjoyed it quite a bit less than you did aha.
I hope that you are having a great March so far!!

    1. right!! that’s the problem with fantasies, i love them SO MUCH, but getting through them in a timely manner is SO difficult. thank you so much, you’re so sweet!!
hahah definitely can see that happening, wilder girls was a strange one and i wish the ending was more put together.

thank youuu! hope you’re having a great month too!

  5. although you didn’t get to read as many fantasies as you planned, it does still sound like you had a good contemporary binge! 😉 (well, except for Yes No Maybe So, i’m so sad that the Muslim rep was terrible!!) i am glad you enjoyed Tweet Cute, it’s been on my TBR for so long and i have to read it soon. hope you’re having lovely reading in March, May!! ❤ ❤ stay safe and healthy xx

  6. YOU READ SO MANY BOOKS, wow, can I please have your dedication and motivation to read?? That’s amazing!! I couldn’t relate more to trying to set a TBR for myself but running off to contemporaries instead, but I’d say it’s not a bad thing at all. 😉
I basically read nothing for the past three months, but hopefully I change that soon?? Anyhow, I hope you’re doing well and I’ve missed talking with you while I was gone!! *hugs*💓

THANK YOU!!! trying to set a tbr is like a sure way to not read ANYTHING on that tbr! psychology!!
yesss!! i hope you’re able to get back into reading (but also no pressure, take your time ❤ ) and i hope you're doing good and you're being kind to yourself!! sending you lots of loveee ❤️

yay for reading good books even if they weren’t all fantasy!! very sad about yes no maybe so and loveboat taipei but i guess it’s just punishment for betraying amy (praying that i’m not guessing wrong) and not following your tbr :o) jk i love you pls don’t kill me in my sleep

also i’m still very happy you liked tweet cute a lot, we have to buddy read more books soon because i miss you >:((

  8. I actually think after reading an intense fantasy you always crave some contemporaries, I think you need the balance some times haha!! (sidenote: I do really need to read some Sanderson at one point, I’m glad you loved the book) And you read so many books, that is awesome!!
I’ve heard about American Royals and it does sound dramatic!! I imagine it is a great read when on holiday for some reason, drama and holidays work well together!! haha!!
Wilder Girls is one I’m interested in for the atmosphere as I’ve heard so much about that and I’m just really curious now!!
I’m so glad you loved The Flatshare because I read it last year and I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. I think it talked about toxic relationships really well and it is really important!! It was also really fun at times which I enjoyed!!
I hope March has been a good reading month too!! ❤

    1. you REALLY need to read some sanderson!! i think you’d LOVE his stuff and yes, you’re completely right contemporaries must be read to keep us happy and away from the slump

oh yeah!! american royals is so extra but also so much fun to read about all the drama, it’d make AN EXCELLENT holiday read. aww! i’m so happy to hear you enjoyed flatshare too! i really liked the balance it had with the cute fluffy stuff and also the important relationship stuff!

thank you so much!! ❤️❤️ i hope you’re having an amazing month!!

  9. I somehow ended up unfollowing your blog but I am bACK and ready to binge your posts!!

Sanderson is literally king but it can be easier to read contemporaries! I really loved tweet cute and I’ve got flat share coming soon and I cAnNot WAit!! I agree about Loveboat Taipei, I had such high hopes and they just weren’t met. American royals was quite good though! Hope March has been good for you! 💛

    1. IT’S OKAY i understand, i would unfollow too (IM KIDDING) but hi!!! welcome back!! ❤️

sanderson is the only person i trust writing 1200+ pages of pure perfection. ahh i’m so glad you loved tweet cute too 🥺🥺 and omg you have to TELL ME what you think of flatshare bc i loved it so much!!!

thank youuuuu, i hope you’re having an amazing month too ❤️❤️

  10. Wow, congrats on a productive month of reading! I haven’t read most of these books, but a lot of them look super interesting!

I really want to read Tweet Cute. It’s been on my tbr for a while now, so I think I finally need to read it.

I’ve been meaning to check out Loveboat, Taipei, but yikes, maybe I should steer clear of it. I don’t really know what it’s about, but my local bubble tea shop has been advertising it for months now (bookmarks, posters, etc.), so I was thinking about reading it. But looking at its reviews, I might just skip it.

Another great post, May! I always love reading them ❤

    1. Thank you so much!! Tweet Cute is really the most adorable and delicious (so much baking and FOOD) book to exist, i can’t wait for you to read it and love it too!!

Awh man!! i’d hate to put you off a book, it’s about a girl who gets sent home to taiwan for the summer. it started off really interesting and fun but the problematic points and the betrayal of the friends really made it low in my eyes. i can excuse a lot of things, but i kind of hate friends who are unnecessarily cruel :/ i mean,,,,some people did enjoy it?? so maybe it just wasn’t for me

THANK YOU SO MUCH!! Your comments mean so much to me 🥺❤️

  11. Also– Scrolling up I noticed your Goodreads widget and I realized you’re reading the new SJM book! My copy of House of Earth and Blood just came in the mail, and I’m obsessed with the cover. But I’m scared to read it because SJM books are usually hit or miss with me. How are you enjoying it so far?

    1. I WISH I COULD TELL YOU HOW IT’S GOING but im so scared of the size and the new world i’m going to have to learn, that i keep putting it off and haha i’ve only read the first page so, i dont really know haha i need to stop being a baby i knowww

i would love to hear your thoughts on it while you read it thought and i hope it goes really well for youuuu

  12. Omg, the way you planned to read fantasy for the whole month, but only read two is RELATABLE. that’s exactly what happened to me when I set a TBR for myself 🤦🏻‍♀️ but it’s amazing already that you manged to read a 1200+ fantasy book! I’ve quaking in my boots just thinking about reading a book that long 🥺🥺
Ahhh, tweet cute!!! It was so freakin’ cute as the title implied! tweet cute is literally happiness in the form of a novel, and I love it ❤ also, I'm excited to read American Royals, because I've heard that it's a whole lot of fun, and sometimes I just need a drama-filled book in my life. idk why I have a strong feeling that I'm not gonna rate it more than 3 stars though 🤔
I'm sad that some of these books turned out disappointing! big yikes to Yes No Maybe So. I hope you find more books that don't perpetuate the "Muslim girl renouncing her religion to be with a guy" trope ❤ ❤ and though I enjoyed Loveboat, Taipei a lot, it definitely wasn't a perfect book. now i'm wondering if I would've liked loveboat, taipei as much as i did, if i had read books like american panda before picking it up ://

    1. setting tbrs is the most surefire way to NOT reading anything on the tbr 😔 the clownery jumps out sometimes. MA’AM YOU’RE GOING TO GET TO THAT 1200+ PAGED BOOK AND YOU’RE GOING TO FLY THROUGH IT I KNOW YOU WILL!!

ugh im so glad we agree on tweet cute!! such taste!! hahah the queen of 3 stars returns, i feel like that too but it’s an entertaining, fun, light dramatic read that sometimes is just fun to read for the sake of it

ugh thank you!! i’m so tired of seeing that trope its literally so 🤢🤢🤢thank you so much for your comment little bean, i appreciate it so muchhhh ❤️❤️

  13. Omg, Brandon Sanderson has a 1200+ page book?! THAT’S WILD. Omg I read Well Met last year & it was so freaking cute – such a surprise favourite for me! OH NOOOOO I just bought Yes No Maybe So a few days ago, wish I’d seen this before I got it 😭 I’m so sorry it turned out to be such a major disappointment 🙁 Ugh, I was NOT a fan of Loveboat, Taipei – I found some of the themes quite problematic & the more I think about it, the angrier I feel!

I’m SO excited to pick up Tweet Cute – I’ve heard nothing but good things about it! 😍

    💛 Ngoc

    1. sanderson is one of the wildest writers but i love his books so much!!! im so glad you enjoyed well met too!! it was so precious i loved the characters so muchhh!!

aww im sorry to hear that but i hope you enjoy ‘yes no maybe so’ more than i did 😦 I HATED THE WAY FRIENDSHIP WAS HANDLED in loveboat taipei, what kind of friend treats their friend SO BADLY??? and there was barely any conversation on it. yikes

  14. Omg, a 1200+ page book?? I love fantasy so much but the fact that so many of the books are enormous scares me off from reading them 😅 Ooh, I’m so happy you enjoyed Tweet Cute! I have it on hold at my library now, so hopefully, I’ll be able to read it soon!
