🍚 Year of the Asian Reading Challenge – #YARC2020

Year of the Asian, a 2020 Reading Challenge. Hosted by CW, Lily, Shealea, and Vicky

i’m so excited to say that i will, once again, be participating in the Year of the Asian reading challenge this year!! #YARC2020 is hosted by the wonderful lily @sprinkles of dreams, shealea @shut up shealea , cw @ the quiet pond, and vicky @vicky who reads

if you don’t already know, YARC is a year long challenge to read as many books by Asian authors as you possibly can! there are really cute stickers to celebrate each level you achieve and i found it to be really chill and easygoing that is to say, you should join!!

last year, i somehow managed to successfully grab the Bengali Tiger by reading more than 50 books by asian authors.

look at this cute little guy!

if you want more information, check: CW’s post.

and for this year i’m going to challenge myself once again and aim for the Bengali Tiger because not only do i love reading my life away, but i love supporting Asian authors and spreading the love by reading and gushing about their books.

to track my reading progress, i drew this little bookshelf (she resides on my sidebar and will be updated throughout the year to show the books i’ve completed hehe)

yarc bookshelf

i think she’s pretty adorable 🥺 and i can’t wait to see what it looks like when it’s all complete

I have a lot of books in mind for this year but i wanted to share my results from last year (in case anyone is looking for recommendations). these are the books i read along with their ratings. I found some really incredible books, some absolute new favourites and ofc some really badly written books 😬

I know it’s a lot and i certainly wasn’t able to write long, in-depth reviews for each of the books. But I did make a YARC mini reviews thread on twitter that terribly summed up my thoughts and had too many emojis to even be coherent

quality content 😎

and now i want to hear from you. Are YOU going to be participating in #YARC2020?? what books are you most excited for?? how is your reading going?? do you have any recommendations for books written by asian authors? signature final

  1. GOSH, I love that little shelf tracker that you drew. SO CUTEEEE. And wowowowow you read so many wonderful books for YARC last year! It’s so satisfying for some reason to see them all laid out side-by-side like this. I’ll definitely have to pick some of them up this year 💛

  2. Your artwork is SO AMAZING!!! I can’t — the bookshelf is adorable and I can’t wait to see her get updated throughout the year. Also, that is SO cool about reading 50+ books last year, girl!! Seriously, you’re one of my biggest reading inspirations. (and I just can’t get over how happy I am to see your posts back in my feed!!) 😀

Sadly, my school closed for coronavirus quarantine 😦 …but I guess that makes a bit more reading time?? I may just have to participate in #YARC2020, it really depends on how busy my life gets. But it seems really flexible and not pressuring at all, plus the goal behind it is so awesome!!

Hope you’re doing well, May, and good luck with this challenge!! I know you’ve 100% got this, you’re going to do *fabulous* ❤ ❤

  4. MAY, YOU DO NOT RESIDE ON THIS MORTAL PLANE. 50 books by Asian authors? How??? (Lol there were a number of 1 and 2 star ratings though, I’m sorry 🥺)
Also, the hand-drawn bookshelf!! whaltjfkdfkldjf it’s ADORABLE! 100x more gorgeous than I am, no joke!!! I can’t wait to see it filled with your amazing art ❤ ❤
this year I'm participating in the challenge too! I think I'm aiming for the Malayan tapir? the one where you have to read 21-30 books (lol i'm bad at challenges), and I'm already behind because I think I've only read four so far 😂
I hope you reach 50 Asian books again this year!!! (but i'm confident that your fast reader superpowers will get you there in no time) I also hope you that you enjoy the books you read for YARC 🥰🥰🥰

  5. That tracker is one of the most adorable things I have ever seen, and I never thought I would say that about a bookshelf! I’m so excited to see how it progresses. I love your graphics for all the books you read for YARC too!
I’m glad to see you enjoyed some of my favourite books last year like Love From A to Z and the Legend trilogy. Although I guess it is not a trilogy anymore, considering Rebel, haha. I still haven’t decided if I’m going to pick that up.
Wishing you all the success this year in the challenge too!!

ahhh the legend trilogy, it was a reread for me but it HURT ME JUST AS MUCH as the first time gahhh i love it so much. haha rebel was good, it was kind of lacking direction but i just enjoyed hanging out with the characters and seeing all their cute domestic scenes 🥺

thank you so much!! i hope you’re having a fantastic month

  8. I love the graphic you made to keep track of your YARC 2020 reads! The attention to detail you’ve included so that each spine’s coloring is so perfect, and the font matches so exactly blows my mind! And I love how this is such a visual and beautiful status update on how you’re progressing with the challenge! It conveys so much more information than just a number would!

And I had so much fun looking through all the books you read in 2019 for this challenge and seeing how you rated them. It seems like it was quite the mixed bag because I saw quite a few 1 star reads, but also quite a few 4 & 5 star reads! For some reason the display made me think of a bingo board, so I tried playing to see if I could find a line of books I had read. I failed since I only read 8/50 books on the graphic, but it was a lot of fun to try!

    1. THAT IS LITERALLY THE SWEETEST THING EVER!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE KIND WORDS OH MY GOODNESS 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 it miiight be a little extra but i literally go searching for the book spines all over instagram so i can copy them and make sure i catch the right colours/font lol i can’t help myself

that’s SO FUNNY!! i love that you looked at it as a bingo board, that’s so relatable. hey 8 books is great, you’re doing awesome!! thank you so much for your comment, literally made my night 🥺❤️
