I Should have Read that Book Tag – or alternatively, the title of my memoir

one of my favourite bloggers, olivia, tagged me in the ‘I Should Read That Book Tag’ which also happens to be the title of my memoir and this is just another great way to bully me into reading the books on my TBR and to stop me from rereading my favourite book, so thank you, olivia.

(also, olivia is an absolute queen at blogging, you should go check her out if you don’t already follow her bc the content she puts out is *chef’s kiss*)

A book that a certain friend is always telling you to read

Image result for sorcery of thorns

i thought about this question really hard and it took me a while too bc apparently I AM that friend that keeps repeatedly telling you to read certain books. so rude and i feel like ‘sorcery of thorns’ is a book almost EVERY reader has been constantly raving about since its release date and it’s one of those books that i TRULY want to read but am a lazy potato so i haven’t yet ๐Ÿ˜”

bookshelf - red

A book thatโ€™s been on your TBR forever and yet you still havenโ€™t read it

Image result for kiss of deception

honestly the kiss of deception has been on my mind since i joined goodreads and i’m really desperate to read it because there’s a plot twist that could potentially be spoiled for me at ANY TIME and marty i’m s c a r e d

bookshelf - red

A book in a series youโ€™ve started, but havenโ€™t gotten around to finishing

Image result for sleeping giants

if anyone read ‘sleeping giants,’ they KNOW what kind of fresh hell this book puts you through. i REALLY REALLY REALLY should have finished this series and i WOULD have, if my library had the audiobook for the final book. but it doesn’t, so i sit and wait in pain and agony until they get it or i just break and read it myself

bookshelf - red

A classic youโ€™ve always liked the sound of, but have never actually read

Image result for rebecca by sarah perry goodreads

i never heard of rebecca until one of my favourite booktubers, merphy napier read it and loved it to no end. AND NOW I WANT TO READ IT BC IT SOUNDS SO CREEPY AND DARK AND LOOK AT THE COVER WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT???

bookshelf - red

A popular book that it seems everyone but you has read

Image result for the diviners cover

i genuinely attempted to ‘the diviners’ LAST YEAR and after chapter one i was so tired i fell asleep and never opened my ebook copy again. the end. ๐Ÿ˜Š

it’s just one of those massive books that are incredibly intimidating i dont know WHY i’ve read BIGGER BOOKS and LONGER SERIES yet here i stand, a coward

but i resolve to read it

…….one day.

bookshelf - red

A book that inspired a film/TV adaptation that you really love, but just havenโ€™t picked up yet

i dont watch much movies/tv shows unless we’re talking cooking shows, that’s different. and if i do its usually an adaptation of a book i loved and so, i have the opposite problem.

I’ve read all these books and desperately want to watch these movies

  • a monster calls
  • the hate u give
  • crazy rich asians
  • ready player one
  • little woman
  • gone girl

but my battery life span on movies is like uhhhh 3 a month, sooooo it’s going to be a long time till i get through these.

A book you see all over Instagram but havenโ€™t picked up yet

Image result for priory of the orange tree

i JUST joined instagram an actual proper instagram!!! i’m set to private right now but send me a request if you want to be friends and while all the bookstagram pictures i’ve seen are ABSOLUTELY STUNNING, i’ve read MOST of the books featured.

i happen to read a liiiittle too much, if you couldn’t already tell so this question took some time to come by, but finally, i settled on priory of the orange tree.ย but DON’T WORRY, i already have plans to read it and i have my copy and it’s all tabbed up ready for me to read……i’m just trying to get my quaking, coward brain prepared

bookshelf - red

and now i have six more reasons to STOP watching youtube and actually read books.

and i don’t really know how to wrap this up so, i tag YOU and i hope to see your answers and also tell me, which series have you been meaning to finish but havent yet? I feel like this is a universal problem that everyone is just collectively ignoring. solidarity, amirite?signature final

  1. Omg the size of The Diviners intimidated me so much – so I decided to listen to it as an audiobook! WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND, THE NARRATOR IS AMAZING!!! That’s honestly my solution to any book I want to read that looks too big – just get someone else to read it TO me instead ๐Ÿ˜‚

  2. I just started Sorcery of Thorns after hearing so many things but I am in a bit of a reading slump but hopefully once I get into I will be free from the slump. It does sound amazing!!
I need to read The Hate U Give then watch the movie!! Both look incredible and I need to get around to it ASAP!!
I watched the movie for Gone Girl and I really liked it but I never read the book so I can’t really compare the two but I hope you love it when you watch it!!
I have quite a few series I need to finish too like The Young Elites but I will get to it soon (but I have been saying that all year haha)!!

  3. I’m going to be ordering two of Margaret Rogerson’s books, and there have been so many positive reviews about Sorcery of Thorns!

The title for this post is so amazing – are you sure you can’t read minds through my laptop?
I really loved reading your answers!

  4. Am i that certain friend who’s telling you to read Sorcery of Thorns? ;)) If so, then MWAHAHAHA. Honestly, The Kiss of Deception was super disappointing for me. For me, it was too romance focused for a fantasy, and as a hater of romance, that did not sit well with me at all. But hey, my mom read them, and she LOVES that series, so maybe you will too.

OHHH, i also read Rebecca because of Merphy! Merphy’s recs are always so solid. Rebecca’s writing was super hard to get into at first, but maybe that’s just because I rarely ever read classics. It had such a nice atmosphere and plot though, albeit it was a little slow moving! also, The Diviners has such good atmosphere and writing—I just can’t. Libba Bray also juggles 3394 characters and manages to expertly foreshadow at the same time. it’s just that Lair of Dreams disappointed me SO much because it was so slow and added NOTHING to the entire series ahhh :(( I’m so excited to read Priory for the gays and dragons though! I’m gonna do it on a school holiday though because during the school year, a book of that length would take me a MONTH to read

  5. I loved reading your answers!! And I’ve seen The Diviners and The Priory of the Orange Tree everywhere and one of my friends has been pushing me to read The Priory of the Orange Tree, but it’s so HUGE. Honestly, I should check out what The Diviners is about but I’m lazy and don’t really want to. A series that I’ve started but haven’t finished is the Six of Crows duology. But I have Crooked Kingdom on hold, so I am working on finishing it…

  6. I FEEL ATTACKED RIGHT FROM BOOK ONE AHHHHH I really really want to read Sorcery of Thorns too because it just sounds amazing and I’ve heard it was unexpectedly wholesome for a fantasy novel! I definitely want to check out everything else on this list too ๐Ÿ˜ฑ

  7. I really need to read The Kiss of Deception – it’s been on my to-read list for ages. I LOVE Rebecca, and if you like it you should also consider reading My Cousin Rachel, another novel by Daphne du Maurier. She is the queen of dark Gothic stories. Oh my god, I can’t believe you haven’t read The Diviners!! It’s one of my all time favorite series, and I love the characters so so SO much. Libba Bray is amazing. ๐Ÿ™‚ Great post, and answers! ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. AHH, I’m so happy you did this!! It was so much fun to read, and thank you for all your kind words, it made me emotional.๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’“Also, the title of this post is genius and I think we should create a collection of memoirs all titled “I Should Have Read This Book.”

I haven’t read any of the books on this list either?? And I really want to see The Hate U Give, too! I don’t know how I haven’t yet, I think it’s just because I rarely watch movies and if I do it’s usually one my family already owns (such as Harry Potter, lol).

    Great post as always!!

  9. Ahhh that first book. I keep on seeing Sorcery of Thorns everywhere I go and every blogger I know seem to adore it. The concept seems really good and I love that cover and really want to try it out, but knowing me it will take me about a gazillion years to do so haha.
I hope you’ll get to watch the crazy rich asians movie, I really really liked it ๐Ÿ˜€
Wonderful answers for this tag โค

  10. I have most of this list in common with you, BUT I have beat potato-ism and read Sorcery of Thorns last week! Did it take me 4 months? Yes. But it has been done, and that’s what matters!

I really want to watch A Monster Calls too! I had no clue there was a movie when I read it, but the book was SO AMAZING I just really want to watch it now. Also, Crazy Rich Asians was fantastic and you should watch it ASAP!

    Great tag May! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿ’•

  11. MAYYYYY, please read Kiss of Deception! I want to know your thoughtssssss. I love the Remnant Chronicles so much and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that you do too. It’s kinda tropey but still somehow works and it’s such an addicting read. ahhhhhhhhhhh, Lia, the protagonist, is one of my fav characters. ๐Ÿ˜€

And I’m totally with ya on Sorcery of Thorns and The Diviners! Someday they will happen–lol, hopefully

And OMG, you have a bookstagram?!? I’m so excited; I’m gonna go follow you right now….

  12. Awesome tag, May! I HAVEN’T READ SORCERY OF THORNS YET EITHER! Everyone and their dog has been telling me to pick up that book, but I’ve been too lazy to read it. I’m waiting for that perfect MOOD to come around where I know I’ll enjoy it. Until then, I likely won’t pick it up. Hahaha! Also, you need to watch A Monster Calls immediately! It’s such a beautiful adaptation, and it made me sob buckets!

  13. Don’t worry, May, I also have not read The Diviners! ๐Ÿ™ˆ But I want to! Hopefully I’ll get to read it soon, during this fine spooky season.

I haven’t read Sorcery of Thorns either, but I own it and will get to it soon. I’ve been really busy lately, and my TBR just keeps getting larger and larger, so I understand what you’re going through! ๐Ÿ˜‚ And I REALLY should stop watching YouTube as well… it’s probably taking up most of my reading time, haha
