Monthly Wrap Ups

contemporary-a-thon wrap up! ๐Ÿ“œ

month wrap up final

this past week, i’ve been reading like crazy. contemporary a thon was held between the 11th to the 17th of february and it was an absolute delight to participate in. i loved keeping up with the videos and blog posts and tbrs and updates everyone was posting.

such a good time.

within the week, i was SOMEHOW able to read a total of 10 books (im just as shook as you are!!!) 5 physical books ๐Ÿ“•, 3 e-books ๐Ÿ“ฑ, and 2 audiobooks ๐ŸŽง

im genuinely surprised at how many books i read bc the first couple of days were really rough for me. i didnt start actually completing books till the third/fourth day of the readathon but jokes on everyone bc i made a comeback (my sleep schedule however, did not)

Links will take you to my reviews for each book.

๐Ÿ“• My So-Called Bollywood Life: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœงโœง

challenge: read a diverse contemporary โœ“

i really enjoyed reading this book. it’s filled with drama and romance and family and friendship. there were times when the characters were ridiculously dramatic and it was cheesy but overall i had a fun time reading it

๐Ÿ“• Snow in Love: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœงโœง

there was a snowstorm outside and i needed a cute, cuddly read and the first & last story were exactly that (we don’t talk about the second and third stories)

SO. CUTE.

๐Ÿ“ฑย We are the Ants: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœฆโœง (4.5 stars)

challenge: read a contemporary with some sort of picture on the spine โœ“

wow this was so tragic. the characters felt so real and the atmosphere & writing were just so raw and emotional. im so impressed with how this turned out.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Only Love can Break Your Heart: โœฆโœฆโœงโœงโœง

challenge: read book with “blurple” on the cover โœ“

i REALLY wanted to love this book with all my heart but i had a hard time connecting with the characters. it was very romance driven (and while i does show some really great character development) i wished it focused more on how the mc dealt with grief and overcoming that pain.

๐Ÿ“• Someone I Used to Know: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœฆโœง (4.5 stars)

challenge: read a dark/emotional/hard-hitting contemporary โœ“

wow this book broke me. i really loved the message and content of this book. patty blount coming for my emotions once again.

๐ŸŽงย The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœงโœง

i know this isnt an ACTUAL contemporary but i read it during the contemporary-a-thon and im counting it, fight me

really interesting ideas were presented in this book and i appreciated the humorous angle that the author chose. i didnt feel like the ideas were anything revolutionary but they were a nice reminder to hear.

๐Ÿ“• G’moning, G’night! โœฆโœฆโœฆโœงโœง

challenge: read a contemporary in a non-traditional format โœ“

this was so kind and soft and i just really liked it

๐Ÿ“ฑ Summer Bird Blue: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœงโœง (3.5 stars)

challenge: read the most recent contemporary book you purchased/acquired โœ“

i loved the way grief was presented and dealt with by the main character. the emotions felt very real and very messy and while i felt like there were some pacing issues, i really liked it

๐ŸŽงย The Enchanted: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœฆโœฆ

again, this didn’t fulfill any challenge by my goodness am i glad i read it.

this book was PHENOMENAL. i can’t remember the last time a book mystified me like this one. absolutely gripping and devastating and so so sad.

i still have SO MANY QUESTIONS

๐Ÿ“• Goodbye Perfect: โœฆโœฆโœฆโœฆโœง

challenge: read a contemporary that you meant to read in 2018 but didnโ€™t โœ“

really well written and developed book on a very real issue. i loved the approach the author took and the way the story played out. it was engaging and entertaining and the message of the story was very clear.

that concludes my weekly accomplishments for the contemporary-a-thon. I’m proud and REALLY shocked at how many books I was able to get done. this just shows how bad my social life is, but is anyone surprised??

If you participated in the readathon please let me know how that went for you! And if you’ve just read any of these books before, i’d love to hear your thoughts on them.

now if you’ll excuse me, im going to sleep till march.

we are the ants has been on my tbr for so long and i’ve heard that shaun david hutchinson loves to break hearts so i guess that’s the book i will be reading next. not like i need feelings or anything. ๐Ÿ™‚

i fell in love with lin manuel miranda after listening to hamilton and then discovering his twitter. so, really, WHY HAVEN’T I READ G’morning & G’night yet? absolutely rude.

but literally like congratulations ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽ‰ on absolutely killing it, you overachieving nerd. ๐Ÿ’›

    1. im offended that you havent read any of the books on this list, but also not bc emma mills’s books are not on this list, so really i cant fault you.

ITS CALLED ‘PRETEND LIFE DOESNT EXIST AND HIBERNATE IN YOUR ROOM ALL MONTH’ its a great a time, you should try it.

you should TOTALLY read we are the ants, it made me unreasonably sad, i literally turned into an emo lump of feels (more than normal at least) I NEED TO HEAR ALL YOUR THOUGHTS WHEN YOU DO

thank YOU QUEEN ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’– my eyes weren’t thanking me after that week but it was for a good cause

  5. 10 books in a week? Girllll, I am so impressed; please teach me your masterful reading ways! ๐Ÿ˜ฒ
Someday someday I want to participate in the contemporyathon. The next one will be some time in the summer, right??

ALSO I AM A COMPLETE FAILURE because I literally JUST noticed how you put the emojis by the book titles to relay how you read it. Like, how did I not notice this before? ๐Ÿ˜‚ I just looked at one of your old wrap ups from the fall to see if you had always done this and YEP, I’ve just been oblivious this entire time…

      1. Oooh, that is such a mood. I’ve been doing that too lately, though instead of with reading, it’s sadly been with the show Lucifer on Netflix…

And oooh, as long as it’s not too far into my fall semester, I should be able to participate also!

        And bahaha, I’m glad ๐Ÿ˜†

  6. WOW, YOU READ SO MANY BOOKS. You had such a successful contemporary-a-thon, congrats. ๐Ÿ˜€
But ohh my gosh I am just sobbing here silently in the corner because you didn’t get on with Only Love Can Break Your Heart, wahhh! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ It’s so interesting how you felt really disconnected from the characters because I haven’t felt so connected and emotionally invested in a character in SUCH A LONG TIME. Like, this book made me sob, and I loved how realistic the romance was to real teen life, how you become totally obsessed with the idea of someone and that isn’t necessarily accurate. It just shows how different our book experiences and what we look for in a book can be.
I’M SO SORRY I REC’D SOMETHING YOU DIDN’T ENJOY. *Sending you virtual cupcakes in apology*.
