Tuesday Top 10s

Top 10 Underrated Books – (this is my subtle way of telling you to read them asap)

tuesday top 10s final

me: *waiting for my blogging motivation to come home from war*

so this is a situation.

idek what’s up with me its totally inktober, its ruining my life but i literally just have no motivation to write anything.

and like nano’s coming up next month and i was planning on maybe, perhaps, hopefully, being able to finish my current WIP and starting a new one much hopes but at the rate i’m going, another year is going to go by AND MY WIP IS STILL GOING TO BE INCOMPLETE AAAAAAA

okay sorry you had to witness an actual breakdown, im okay, i swear but seriously, does anyone know how to end a novel in a satisfying way bc halp

but since i’m a lost soul, I figured i’d just do a top 10 post bc nothing makes me feel better than encouraging more people to read my favs πŸ˜‡

so, some days ago, i asked goodreads what was some of their favourite underrated books and i got quite a few responses (thank you very much to everyone who commented) and bc im extra i actually made an excel spreadsheet to keep track of all those recommendations (bc i genuinely do want to get to each of them)

and in light of that, i thought MAYBE I SHOULD RECOMMEND some of my favourite books that dont get enough love 😊

so enough of my blabbing, let’s start listing

(note that these books aren’t listed in my favourite order but from most rated to least rated – according to goodreads)

10. Emma Mills (i had to make an exception for her, okay dont hate me)

i’m sure everyone has heard me gush about emma mills’s books for every breathing moment but GUYS SHES SO UNDERRATED AND HER CONTEMPORARIES ARE EVERYTHING YOU’VE BEEN LOOKING FOR (dont ask how i know that, i just do)

9. Love & Luck

Image result for love & luck jenna welch

I finished this book recently and while it’s pretty lowkey right now, im almost positive its going to be as big as the author’s previous word Love & Gelato bc its SO SWEET but not in the cheesy, gross way (the romance is so minimal) but in the soft, family way 😭😭😭

im so weak for cute, annoying families in YA

flower watercolour8. And the Trees Crept in

Image result for and the trees crept in

this book is really creepy and while i dont do creepy or horror much, i genuinely thought this was amazing (obvs, it had its problems, i didnt like the ending very much, but everything else was πŸ‘Œ)

its so well written and atmospheric, i really wish it got more recognition

flower watercolour7. Midnight at the Electric

Image result for midnight at the electric

another really great book thats too underrated (makes me sad)

this book flips between the future and the past and it does it in such a seamless way while including themes like family, loss, love, and coming to terms with reality, its just A REALLY GOOD BOOK

flower watercolour6. American Panda

Image result for american panda

i just couldn’t put this one down and it made me laugh (with how ridiculous parental expectations can be) and cry (bc its soft) and i really really really thought it featured some great rep

it really balanced a serious and lighthearted tone throughout the book, really well done

flower watercolour5. The Only Thing Worse than Me is You

Image result for the only thing worse than me is you

i’m trash for enemies to lovers in ANY genre but when contemporaries can pull it off, im just all heart eyes

this is a modern retelling of ‘much ado about nothing’ and its so funny and exciting and despite the cover, not as cliche as you would imagine

flower watercolour4. The Bird and the Blade

Image result for the bird and the blade

this book brings me pain everytime i see the cover and it concerns me HOW UNDERRATED IT IS

there’s almost no hype but its SO GOOD AND DESERVES ALL THE HYPE

AND LOOK AT THE COVER???? hype this up, people

flower watercolour3. Wrecked

Image result for wrecked by maria padian

this book delves into some more serious topics. rape culture and consent and victim blaming but its written from the perspective of the victim’s roommate and you would not believe how well constructed this book is

honestly a gem and should be read more

flower watercolour2. Now Is Everything

Image result for now is everything

but also kinda dark, so be prepared bc the ending left me in shock

SO. GOOD. it deserves more recognition

flower watercolour1. The Art of Feeling

Image result for the art of feeling

this totally wasn’t my doing (fortunately for you)

idk how but this book has the least amount of reviews from all these books and thats just,,,,i feel sorry for you guys, not having this book in your life is really a tragedy

πŸ™ƒ YOU πŸ™ƒ SHOULD πŸ™ƒ TOTALLY πŸ™ƒ PICK πŸ™ƒ IT πŸ™ƒ UP πŸ™ƒ

flower watercolour

….is it just me or,,,,,do i read a lot of contemporaries??? i didnt think it’d be this obvious
oops Β―\_(ツ)_/Β―

  1. I don’t have a GR account, I’m just gonna comment here!
First off, I was scrolling through the GR thread, and noticed something I must tell you.
PAPER CRANES DON’T FLY BASICALLY PLAGURISED TFIOS. It was written by a 19yo, but still. There’s a pre funeral, a notebook discovery at the end, etc. It’s not that great anyway SO PLEASE DONT READ IT!
Queens of Geek by Jen Wilde has a fabulous autistic/Aspergers rep, as well as Chinese and lesbian. Yeah. Fan Art, by Sarah Tregay is also amazing!

And omg I totally feel ya on the struggle to write! I haven't touched my WIP since August 😬
You got this for NaNo tho; I believe in you! Even if you don't make the 50k, you'll no doubt have at least written something and that's always a success!

And bahh, I'm horrible at eating veggies; don't remind me 😝

      1. YESSS! Never more in my life have I wanted to go into a book and rip the characters away from their situation than when I read the ending of this book. I also kinda wanna buy the book so I can reread it in the future, but idk if I can go through that ending again. 😒
Also, I can’t wait to see what this author will write next! She keeps releasing sneak peeks on insta for her secret WIP, and it’s driving me insane because I wanna know!

And awww, of course! Ahhh, if you ever want to talk more about writing, hmu, because I’m always on the lookout for writing buddies! ❀

  5. I love this list and I am so, so, sooooo bad because there are so many books I haven’t read?! Clearly I need to get myself some new books as soon as I can. I only read First and Then by Emma Mills but I loved it and I will need to read everything she writes, obviously, also how does she get all of the best book covers ever, I love them all so much?? And the Only Thing Worse Than Me Is You sounds SO GREAT I need to read that one very very soon. Thank you for sharing this amazing list!! ❀

      1. AHHHHH

if you don’t like it i’ll throw up and cry

also contemporary crew is where i LIVE. i may be having a fantasy #moment right now but i’ll never forget my roots

  7. so i went to goodreads to add “the only thing worse..” because a contemporary enemies to lovers (recommended by you) needs to be read immediately. i found out that it’s already buried deep somewhere in my tbr (of-fucking-course) and i’m going to start reading it rn because we love shacking all jobs and chores to read a book in one sitting impulsively.
also, a mongolian fantasy with ghosts and riddles? sold.
it pains me to see taof so ridiculously less number of reviews but you’re doing good work, bud. i salute you. :’)
