This is a really slapped together post bc I haven’t posed in years and I have the beginning feelings of remorse, so soz and I hope you like this….whatever this is.
So, my peeps, I want you to know that I hear your cries. I know the cruel world has made reading tough this time of year
whether it be school or work or if you’re just going through a terrible slump , but I hear you and I am HERE to help!
I kept in mind that these books should be a decent length (to be able to consume in one sitting) but should also be HELLA entertaining
bc no one wants to sit through a bore fest, no matter how short the book is
And so I have compiled this list especially for your needs!
Don’t ever say I wasn’t helpful
I read this book quite a long time ago and though I don’t remember much from it, it’s basically a modern classic and it concerns a pretty important topic (trigger warning for rape) so if you looking for something a little heavy on the emotions, here ya are
9. The Princess Saves Herself in This One
OKAY, this book is really a hit-or-miss bc half the community hates it while the other half loves it. I’m on the loving it side and yes they’re basically tumblr quotes that someone pressed the enter key after each thought BUT ITS A QUICK READ AND I LOVED IT OKAY
8. What We Saw
Another heavy book concerning rape but wowowowowowoow did this book SHOCK me. It’s so real and raw and painful but wow, just drop everything and read it please please please
7. Every Heart a Doorway
6. A List of Cages
I always seem so inclined to sad books, idk why i’m like this but a list of cages was one of the best contemporary books, with its quick chapters and heartfelt plot, really a great read on all accounts.
5. Night of Cake & Puppets
OKAY YES, I UNDERSTAND THAT READING THIS BOOK COMES WITH CONDITIONS, being 1) you’re probably gonna wanna read the first two books in the series before you read this otherwise you’ll be so lost
DAMN THIS BOOK IS SO BLOODY GOOD LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER MET A SIDE CHARACTER LIKE ZUZANA AND THIS IS THE KIND OF ROMANCE THAT EVERYONE DESERVES OKAY I PROMISE NO REGRETS
(also the new version came out earlier and the art included is effing fantastic, please check it out)
4. Letters to the Lost
Me?? Shutting up about books I love??? Never.
Read this if you have a soul, which oh by the looks of it, you do.
I don’t make the rules, sorry honey.
3. Eliza and her Monsters
*ahem* if you ever loved me you’ll read this.
that’s all I’m gonna say.
2. A Monster Calls
Sadness to brighten your day and your reading challenge. Honestly, made me cryyyyyyyy but I adore it with my heart.
1. On the Jellico Road
I. WILL. NOT. STOP. UNTIL. EVERYONE. READS. THIS. BLOODY. BOOK.
On of the very best contemporaries I’ve ever read and it’s been over a year but I’m still shook over it okay please, just read this and come scream with me about how melina marchetta is the queen we don’t deserve.
Alright, that’s it for now, hopefully I’ve helped some unlucky souls and got them back on the right path aka out of a slump and back to reading. If not then,,,idk have some tea to rest your sorrows.
