Top 10 Books to Cure your Slump

tuesday top 10

Okay first off, ~disclaimer, disclaimer, i’m not saying that these books will undoubtedly cure your slump nor will i take any responsibility if they put you in a worse slump this is just supposed to be a fun post yada yada disclaimer, disclaimer~ Okay, I think I’m safe from any legal backfire.

So, I myself feel like I’ve been tiptoeing along the lines of a slump for the past month. I have zero clue what happened to me since I was reading books at record speed (even I was getting impressed with myself) and then bam, Mr. Slump rounded a corner and punched me RIGHT in the face.

Well, maybe not RIGHT in the face, maybe like, he tried but I dodged it and ended up tripping over his foot instead and landed – okay, okay getting off track here.

Anyways, so I thought, I would share a compilation of the top 10 books that I think may be helpful for curing a slump. I only say this because I read most of these books in less than 24 and I found them to be very engaging.

Basically, they’re all page turners.

ENOUGH TALKING GOODNESS.

10. Forgive me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick

13477676

Forgive me, Leonard Peacock managed to rank 10th on this list because while I found it hilariously warped, my best friend hated it. So honestly, it’s either a hit or miss but I really enjoyed the dark humour (everyone loves a little darkness once in a while) and the overall message and it’s also quite sad and compelling, so you get a side of feels with it.

*whispers* it’s short too.

9. This Adventure Ends by Emma Mills

WHEN I PICKED THIS BOOK UP I PHYSICALLY COULD NOT PUT IT DOWN. I’m telling you guys, the writing, the characters, the humour, the plot, I was so captivated. One of my FAVOURITE contemporaries ever.

8. Under Rose Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall

28101540

I actually finished this one recently and it REALLY stuck with me. Not only that the mental illness rep is A+ but also bc it’s adorable and sweet and SO FAST PACED like you could finish it in an hour.

7. This is not a Test by Courtney Summers

This-is-not-a-Test

Honestly, I want to wrap Courtney Summer’s brain in a blanket. Her stories are always so dark and tragic but so BLOODY good. This is a zombie-Apocalypse type book but don’t let that change your mind, because this woman can bloody write about a garbage bin and you will get chills.

6. One by Sarah Crossan

One

I can promise you two things with this book. 1. You can finish it in one sitting (it’s written in prose so super easy to read) and 2. It will shatter your heart. That’s some quality content, folks.

5. A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

A_Monster_Calls

I have no words for this book, just read it. It’s super short and you won’t regret it, I’ll give you that.

4. One Of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus

32571395

This is more of a contemporary ft. a mystery than the other way around but DAMN I was so invested in this STORY, THE CHARACTERS, THE PLOT, THE MYSTERY. Great book for beating a slump.

3. Eliza and her Monsters by Francesca Zappia

31931690

Francesca Zappia can write no evil in my eyes. She fricken knows how to write contemporary like a bloody queen. I finished this book in less than a day (and it was a quite busy day for me too, but screw adulting, books gotta be read)

2. Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys

34352-1

Tragic. Historic. Tragic. The best recipe for any book. I think what makes Salt to the Sea so compelling to read is the numerous POVs and stories you get to follow. Also super short chapters always keep my attention.

1. Dark Matter by Blake Crouch

d62056efd05ff725ca1b99204601911a

Guaranteed to screw with your mind. Dark Matter is going to have your brain reeling and punching your slump in the face so you can come back for MORE MORE MORE MORE.

And of course, if these books didn’t help you beat the slump, you can always reread a fav or leave your house for the first time in three years and breathe in oxygen. I hear that helps too (or something).

And I wanna hear from you, which books do you swear will cure a slump?!?

  1. Haha! This is so funny! Out of these books, I’ve actually only read A Monster Calls, but I agree that it would be a good one for a slump. The Female of the Species would be one I’d suggest. George by Alex Gino would be another. Cool post, May! 😊

  2. i am…Horrified to state that i have only read 3 of these books. although it seems like by “cure your slump” you mean “this book will murder you and thus you will have more important things to worry about than reading slumps, such as fending off ghouls in the afterlife.”

    also YAY you’re here

  3. GREAT list! The only book I have read here is Under Rose Tainted skies and I loved it SO much, I would have read it in one go, if I could have. There are SO many other books on here I want to read, Eliza and her monsters, A Monster Calls, This Adventure Ends… I’m SO happy you recommend them all 😀
