I can feel the heat physically creeping in – know what that means book readers??? Its time to shed everything ((skin included it seems)) and embrace the sticky season of summer.
As you can probably tell, I’m not summer’s biggest fan. My Canadian blood sings to all things cold and well, summer and I have issues ((like heat-induced insomnia)). But one thing I absolutely love about summer is the release of so many great books!
So here we are, listing my top 10 most anticipated summer-y reads for 2017. These books are probably the only thing that will help me get over this blasted heat.
10. You’re Welcome, Universe by Whitney Gardner
I have nooo idea what it is about this book, but I look at this and I think, damn I need to read this during the sweltering months of heat. I mean, I’m seeing a pretty array of colours, some rebellious behaviour, and an ethnic MC. sign me up.
9. Gem & Dixie by Sara Zarr
This will be my second book written by Sara Zarr and honestly I’m hella excited for this one. Gem and Dixie sounds like a book filled with sisterhood and dysfunctional families and lots of drama – which sounds perfect for summer.
8. Words in Deep Blue by Cath Crowley
CAN WE JUST TALK ABOUT THE COVER FOR A SECOND??? Books, books, and more blue books. Why am i so enchanted by this cover??? idk but something about the cover and the blurb and the v high rating tells me that I’m gonna enjoy this one ((please, hopefully, im praying so))
7. My Not So Perfect Life by Sophie Kinsella
Sophie Kinsella is like the Queen of Chick-lit and while I’m not always blown away by her stories, there is just something intensely charming about her work. You always know you’re in for some witty banter, some relatable characters, and so much drama!!! Can’t wait for this one!!
6. Now I Rise by Kiersten White
I’m going to switch up the genre a bit for this pick. If you haven’t read the first book in this series, And I Darken, you need to stop what you’re doing and go pick it up ((don’t worry, I’ll be here when you get back)). A book filled with a fictional twist on history, this series is absolutely captivating. I’m dying to get my hands on this book!
5. What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum
Did Julie Buxbaum steal my heart and win my permanent loyalty with “Tell me Three Things?” Why yes, yes she did. With the blurb and this v cute cover, something is telling me this is going to be the absolute perfect summer read!
4. In a Perfect World by Trish Doller
After basking in the glory that is the cover of this book, I took a few minutes to read the synopsis and was like HECK YES. A teenage girl spontaneously has to move to Egypt for the summer? Where she gets to experience a new culture? Meet new people? Build a new life for herself? SIGN. ME. UP.
3. When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
Ohhhhhh, the hype is HIGH for this one. Apparently this book has it all; indian teengers, an arranged marriage, adorable-ness, and hilarity. HOW COULD THIS NOT BE GOOD???
2. Once and For All by Sarah Dessen
Need a summer read? Sarah Dessen’s got your back. With a simple yet elegant cover, this book is promising so much. Truthfully, I’m not a fan of Sarah Dessen’s earlier works but her more recent books have really won me over. She always knows how to add JUST the right amount of cuteness without having it consume the plot. Can’t wait for this!
- Because you Love to Hate Me
AND FINALLY. My most anticipated summer read. A 13-anthology novel where villains are the main characters?? Written by some of your FAVOURITE authors??? Including Renée Ahdieh, Susan Dennard, Marissa Meyer, Victoria Schwab, Adam Silvera, and Nicolla Yoon????
FRICKEN HELL WHY WASN’T THIS PUBLISHED YESTERDAY????
If this one fails me, i’m gonna quit reading all together. That’s not even a joke.
And wait, before you go, I have one more!!
Bonus: Summer Days & Summer Nights
Another anthology because why the heck not. Summer Days and Summer Nights is a summer MUST read. Not only is it a collection of 12 love stories by some of your favourite authors, but they’re hella sweet and hella summery and this is probably the only thing that will help you escape the dreaded heat.
I’m totally rereading this.
So that’s all we got for today. Which of these books are you dying to read this summer and what is your most anticipated summer read??
Hopefully we can beat the heat together (seriously, I’m counting down to days till fall).
Until the next post.
