Last week, I was spreading all my bitter negative vibes with the Top 10 Worst Love Triangles but this week, I’m going to spread happiness and joy ((and a little bit of jealously – bc why the heck am i not part of a butt kicking squad)) that accompanies Squad Goals.
I LOVE reading books that include Squad Goals because it makes everything infinitely more ENTERTAINING. Especially when everyone is sassing each other.
You know that group of kids in middle school that are literally the Crap™ and you always wanted to be included in their shenanigans ?? well, yes, now envision them in a fantasy/sci-fi/mystical setting and now you got this list.
So, let’s start. . .
10. Anna and the French Kiss Series by Stephanie Perkins
You’re going to have to forgive me for including this in the top 10s, but I’m utter trash for Anna and Etienne. I loved how this series was more than a standalone contemporary series for the SOLE reason that I got to see my OTP in more than one book ((i honestly could care less about the other two couples, soznotsoz)) Anyways, they were all super cute together and yeah the part of me that loved this series had to include it in this list.
9. A Court of Roses and Thorns by Sarah J Maas
Despite my low rating for the 3rd book in the series, I did genuinely LOVE this series and I loved the whole friendship dynamic that built within the Night Court and the different personalities they had to offer. ((Yes, the dark and broody Az is my absolute favourite))
8. The Archived series by V. E. Schwab
Wesley Ayers, amirite??? There’s not a moment that I miss where I can gush and cry over the beauty that is Wesley Ayes and this list must be subjected to my fangirling. I adored this series and the whole creepy Archived crew. I wanna rereaddddd now. ;-;
7. Throne of Glass series by Sarah J Maas
Unpopular opinion: I loved Throne of Glass more then A Court of Thorns and Roses. I have nooo idea why, perhaps it’s because I started this series first. But I’m so invested in these characters and I have grown to love them so fiercely with my little heart as each book progressed. Having them all encounter each other throughout the series was my dream come true.
6. Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan
Is there even an explanation needed? These demigod kids own my heart, I will gladly go on ANY adventure with my children and their accompanied sass. Squad goals, man.
5. The Raven Cycle by Maggie Stiefvater
My raven boys, oh my goodness. I loved this series. I love the intricate build of the plot over time. I love the ships that emerged. I love the friendship that grew. I love the uniqueness of every character and how they each interact and bond with each other differently, one of my FAVOURITE squads to read.
4. The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer
Banter. Affection. Care. Kindness. Sass. Buttkicking qualities. Cinderella, Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel, Snow White and her Evil Stepmother, this squad has it all. Gosh dammit, if you hadn’t read it go pick it up right now because you need this sci-fi/fairytale retelling squad in your life.
3. The Illuminae Files by Aime Kaufman & Jay Kristoff
This book is literal perfection. The plot, the characters, the plot twists, literal perfection. The kids you meet up in space are so unique and relatable and witty and they tell one of the most epic stories you’ll even encounter. You need some Nik in your life, go read it right now.
2. The Darker Shades of Magic Series by V. E. Schwab
This squad slays. We got a magical-world-traveling character, a thief/pirate, a prince, another pirate, another magical-world-traveling character, and a hell of a lot of action. Following these characters throughout the epic series slayed my existence.
annnnddd, our TOP SQUAD GOALS can be found in the. . .
1. Six of Crows Duology by Leigh Bardugo
You can absolutely NOT go wrong with this series. Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Wylan, and Jesper use their qualities and abilities to preform the biggest and baddest heist you’ve ever seen. These kids are cunning, genius, sarcastic, and so bloody bada*s.
That’s gonna wrap it up for this Tuesday. Which squad do you think is the best?
Until the next post,
I so want to be part of Feyre’s squad. I fell in love with that group in ACOMAF, and ACOWAR was going nowhere for me until they were reunited. The Raven Cycle family had an interesting dynamic, and with Blue’s mystical family definitely rounded out that squad nicely. So many fun groups of characters. Love them all!
